LG Display, AMD, and Eyesafe Join Forces with Healthcare Professionals to Shape the Future of Blue Light and Electronics

In today’s tech-oriented world, we find ourselves immersed in a sea of screens emitting a unique form of light known as blue light. From our smartphones and televisions to our computer monitors and gaming devices, blue light surrounds us. However, how much do we truly understand about this omnipresent light and its impact on our health and well-being?

To answer this question, Eyesafe hosted the inaugural Blue Light Leaders Roundtable, an exclusive event that brought together eye doctors and prominent figures in the consumer electronics industry. This intimate gathering fostered a valuable exchange of insights aimed understanding the role of technology, blue light and health in today’s always-on digital world. By collaborating and sharing expertise, we aspire to make significant advancements in safeguarding against the potential effects of blue light exposure.

Highlights from the session included:

Richard Lindstrom, an ophthalmologist and the founder and attending surgeon at Minnesota Eye Consultants, remarked that digital eyestrain is becoming a very common complaint in every eye care professional’s office, and doctors are learning it can significantly impact employee productivity at work as well as an individual’s well-being and quality of life.

Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing at AMD, explains how display technology has been consistently improving and evolving – screens are brighter, resolutions higher, and refresh rates are significantly faster. These advances are make gaming more immersive than ever before but create new risks due to higher levels of blue light exposure. For that reason, AMD has been an early adopter and promoter of blue light mitigation technologies, like Eyesafe offers.

Justin Jin, Marketing Operations Division VP at LG Display commented how LG Display has recognized the importance of eye health for some time and designs its products to maximize visual comfort. The company recently launched a new OLED gaming monitor which emits 50% less blue light compared its LCD counterpart. Gamer feedback has been extremely positive, citing low eye fatigue even after long gaming sessions.

Paul Herro, COO at Eyesafe, shared how the pandemic altered the way consumers interact with their devices, spending 10+ hours a day on screens. Its driven a whole new awareness and appreciation for eye comfort, which is now a top purchase factor for devices of all kinds.
