OLED Shines with Low Blue Light and Natural Color
There are increasing concerns about screen time and over-exposure to blue light. Eyesafe® Certified OLED by LG Display manages high-energy blue light at the source, without compromising image quality and color.
WHITE PAPER:
OLED: TV Designed for Health
The Pioneering Low Blue Light Technology of Eyesafe® Certified OLED, Designed to Lower Impact on Circadian Rhythm and Promote Eye Comfort
Abstract: This white paper examines the major display technologies for television, including traditional LCD and OLED, in respect to their potential influence on eyes and circadian rhythm. Traditional LCD displays emit significantly higher amounts of high-energy blue light compared to OLED displays, and this can potentially lead to a disruption of the circadian rhythm. A desynchronization of the circadian rhythm can lead to numerous symptoms. Blue light emission rates from OLED displays are 50% lower than the standard (100W/sr/m2) set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which may help promote better sleep and eye comfort.
See OLED shine. Your eyes will thank you.
SLEEP
Blue light can inhibit melatonin production, reducing both the quantity and the quality of your sleep when exposed at night.
EYE STRAIN
According to the Vision Council, as many as 60% of Americans report experiencing symptoms of digital eye strain1
DRY EYES
When hyperfocused on a screen that emits blue light for a long period of time, blink frequency may drop and can lead to dry eyes.
DEVELOPING EYES
Children’s eyes are more likely to be sensitive to blue light, and excess screen time may pose long-term risks.
World’s First Eyesafe® Certified OLED TV Display
In late 2021, LG Display, the world’s largest manufacturer of OLED television panels, announced a first-of-its kind partnership with Eyesafe. Together, they look to establish OLED as the world’s most effective technology for eye comfort. LG Display has committed to certify all of its OLED TV displays to meet Eyesafe® Standards for low emission of blue light and optimal color performance. Certification is conducted by the leading independent testing and certification firm TÜV Rheinland.
“We are so proud to be the first manufacturer to certify our TV displays as Eyesafe® – the recognized leader in screen time safety, blue light mitigation, and optimal color performance across consumer electronics.”
Dr. Soo-Young Yoon, LG Display Chief Technology Officer
“LG Display is an industry innovator, and that’s why we partnered with Eyesafe to introduce LG Display’s OLED, designed to have low blue light for improved eye comfort and better sleep.”
KJ Kim VP of TV Sales Group, LG Display
“Eyesafe® Certified OLED is what TV should be – designed with human health at the forefront.”
Dr. Vance Thompson MD, Founder of Vance Thompson Vision, Member Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board
Certified by TÜV Rheinland
Products are certified by TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in independent product testing, to meet industry-leading requirements for blue light emissions and color integrity.
Reduced High-Energy Blue Light Without Color Compromise
Other filters and common software solutions adjust the blue light by shifting your screen to warmer hues. Eyesafe® Certified OLED reduces high-energy blue light, while maintaining color and brightness.
What makes Eyesafe® Certified OLED better than a typical LED TV?
OLED pixels emit their own light. Eyesafe® Certified OLED TV emits lower amounts of blue light compared to traditional LCD TVs, while maintaining perfect black, high contrast characteristics and excellent picture quality. The result is a more comfortable experience with optimal color integrity, eye comfort and viewing experience.
Flicker Free, Glare Free
OLED minimizes eye strain by eliminating flicker that can’t be detected by the naked eye and glare that disrupts your viewing experience.
Perfect Blacks
OLED self-emissive technology controls light and colors by pixel, it reproduces perfect blacks without halo effect.
Designed with Doctors
Developed with the Eyesafe® Vision Health Advisory Board, a group of leading optometrists and ophthalmologists from across the globe. Eyesafe industry-leading low blue light certification is based on optical testing and research.
LG Display Eyesafe® Certified OLED TV Display
LG Display has received Eyesafe® Certification for low blue light emissions while maintaining high color performance.
