MINNEAPOLIS — September 9, 2026 — For the millions of consumers who will upgrade to the iPhone lineup Apple announced today, a new patient study points to a simple, always-on step for more comfortable screen time: Eyesafe CPF70 Technology.
Eyesafe®, the global leader in screen health — whose standards and technology make the world’s electronics healthier for the people who use them — today released a new white paper detailing results from a patient survey study conducted with Southwest Eye Care, a leading eye clinic, examining visual comfort, sleep, and product preference among iPhone users. Every participant was an adult iPhone user on a current-generation device, using their phone at least two hours a day.

CPF70 delivered consistent, significant gains across comfort, sleep, and preference
In the two-period study, 29 adult iPhone users each used a standard clear screen protector for two weeks and a screen protector with Eyesafe CPF70 Technology for two weeks, completing identical surveys on visual comfort, sleep, and preference after each period.
- Among participants who expressed a preference, CPF70 was chosen nearly 6-to-1 (62% preferred CPF70, 10% preferred the clear protector, 28% expressed no preference).
- Reported eye strain frequency declined 31% (p = 0.001), and the share of participants experiencing frequent eye strain fell from 45% to 10%.
- Overall symptom frequency across all eight measured categories declined 17% (p = 0.002), with significant reductions in eye strain, tired/heavy eyelids, and red/watery/irritated eyes.
- Self-reported sleep quality improved 10% (p = 0.013); participants rating their sleep “good” or “very good” rose from 48% to 72%.
- For those experiencing frequent eye strain, CPF70 Technology delivered the largest gains: 92% (11 of 12) reported eye strain less often — none reported it more often — and the group’s reported frequency fell by half.*

In their own words:

Reported gains came from the filter alone — True Tone and Night Shift were off
Notably, participants disabled the iPhone’s own True Tone and Night Shift features for the duration of the study — meaning the reported improvements were observed from the physical filter alone, without software color adjustment and without the amber color shift of built-in night modes. Eyesafe CPF70 Technology filters high-energy blue light continuously, on every app and at every hour, while preserving the color experience the iPhone display was designed to deliver.
“The team at Eyesafe continues to innovate with our collaborative partners to develop digital device light management solutions to improve health and wellness. Recent pilot clinical testing with Eyesafe optical lens designs demonstrated compelling directional support using a subjective symptoms survey and ocular tear film stability analysis,” said Dr. David Friess, OD, Chair of the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board.
“Every new iPhone means more hours of screen time. This study shows people can feel the difference when protection is built into the screen itself — reported comfort improved, sleep ratings improved, and participants preferred it nearly six to one, all without compromising the color experience the iPhone is known for,” said Justin Barrett, Founder and CEO, Eyesafe.

About the study
The study was a two-period, within-subject patient survey in which each participant served as their own control (standard clear protector, two weeks, then a protector with Eyesafe CPF70 Technology, two weeks; identical surveys after each period). Participants were adults aged 18–54 using iPhone 14 or newer at least two hours daily; 29 participants completed the study with 100% compliance and no adverse events. Results are self-reported outcomes analyzed by paired Wilcoxon signed-rank tests (significance p < 0.05). Data on file, Eyesafe Inc., 2026. The study was self-reported and unblinded with a fixed sequence; findings are perception and preference outcomes and are not presented as results of a controlled clinical trial, nor as medical claims.
