LAS VEGAS, NV. // Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, TÜV Rheinland, the world’s largest third-party testing and certification body along with Eyesafe, world leader in health and safety requirements and technologies for consumer electronics, announced the next generation industry standard for low blue light and color performance and mark to represent health and safety for the digital age.

With screen time exceeding waking hours for many and consequently, exposure to high-energy visible blue light (HEV) increasing, next generation Eyesafe Display requirements are being developed to guide industry leaders based on health research. Exposure to blue light from digital devices has been cited as a contributor to a series of health issues including digital eye strain, sleep disruption, fatigue, and reduced attention span.

“The new TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe Display mark and certification represents the industry’s best in regard to human health, exposure to high-energy blue light and color performance”, said Jay Yang, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Greater China. “The largest brands and panel manufacturers are choosing to certify in order to communicate their commitment to human health to customers.”

The new TÜV Rheinland Certified Eyesafe Display mark identifies achievement of the industry leading standard. The purpose of the Eyesafe® Display Standard and certification from TÜV Rheinland is to assist the electronics display industry, which includes component suppliers and brands, to develop the healthiest displays in the world. Eyesafe® Display Standards are next generation low blue light and color performance requirements guided by the latest health research and input from leaders in healthcare.

“In collaboration with leaders in healthcare and through extensive research, this standard has been intelligently designed for human health,” said Justin Barrett, CEO of Eyesafe. “We are committed to collaborating with the industry in development of the world’s healthiest displays and consumer electronics.”

The growing crescendo of concern among eye care professionals, lawmakers and regulators, the media and the public in general about the dangers of blue light was the impetus for the development of the standard. From its onset, Eyesafe has been at the forefront of research, the development of protective standards, and protective technologies for the electronics industry as it relates to the hazards associated with extended exposure to blue light emissions from displays. The company’s signature suite of technologies and standards, known as Eyesafe®, are considered the gold standard in the electronics industry for blue light filtration and protection. Eyesafe® works with leading manufacturers including Dell and ZAGG, the world’s leading screen protector company, in providing protective blue light filtration solutions and standards for their consumers.
