Dr. Dagny Zhu Joins the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board

Dr. Zhu, MD is a top social media influencer in eye care and will use her global platform for advocating around the issues of screen time and blue light emissions from digital devices.

MINNEAPOLIS // September 23, 2021 // Eyesafe today announced that Los Angeles-based ophthalmologist Dagny Zhu, MD, has joined the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board (VHAB). She joins a group of highly-respected ophthalmologists and optometrists who share concern over rising blue light exposure from digital devices.

There is a mounting body of research suggesting excess screen time and blue light emissions may pose risk to the eyes and human health. The Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to inform Eyesafe research, technology, standards, certification, and advocacy efforts.

Dr. Zhu is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, cataract, and laser refractive surgery. She was born in Shanghai, China and grew up in California, receiving her undergraduate degree in molecular, cell, and developmental biology at UCLA. She received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed her ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute/University of Southern California Los Angeles County Medical Center, one of the largest public hospitals in the country. Dr. Zhu completed fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the top eye hospital in the world.

Dr. Zhu is one of the world’s top Instagram influencers for eye care, with over 50,000 followers.

“I am really thrilled to be joining the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board – a truly esteemed group of world-class eye care professionals, many of whom I have known and respected for years,” said Dr. Zhu. “We in the eye care field need to become much more proactive when it comes to communicating with our patients around high-energy blue light. One of my main goals in joining the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board is to become a vital link between patients and the growing body of medical and scientific research available about the potential risks posed by blue light.”

“Dr. Zhu is a wonderful addition to the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board,” observed David Friess, OD, FAAO, a Philadelphia-based optometrist and chair of the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board. “In addition to being a widely admired surgeon and eye care specialist, Dr. Zhu is one of the most visible faces of eye care in America in her efforts to communicate oftentimes complex medical and scientific issues to patients and consumers.”

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Zhu on Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board,” remarked Justin Barrett, the CEO and co-founder of Eyesafe. “In addition to her remarkable academic and professional credentials, Dr. Zhu will provide a valuable link between the company and the all-important Chinese market and its nearly three billion pairs of eyes. The Eyesafe team is really looking forward to working with her. She is an outstanding addition our world-class group of doctors.”
